Economic importance of the motorcycle industry in Europe

The motorcycle sector in the EU and the UK supports about 389,000 jobs through different activities, including the manufacturing of vehicles, parts and accessories, and personal protective equipment, as well as motorcycle-related activities, such as sport and tourism.

The motorcycle industry generates €21.4 billion of GDP across Europe every year. And for every every €1 of GDP created directly by motorcycle businesses, a further €1.80 of GDP is generated in other industries, due to knock-on expenditure impacts.

The motorcycle sector and related activities also generate close to €16.6 billion in tax revenue, making motorcycling an important contributor to public finances, particularly in Germany, France, Italy, the UK and Spain.

Key objectives of the association

ACEM engages in dialogue with European, national and local authorities, and key stakeholders to advance the understanding of industry positions on relevant policy issues, including, among others, industry competitiveness, road safety, and mobility and sustainability policies.

ACEM advocates for policies that support the competitiveness of motorcycle manufacturers, provides factual information about the European motorcycle sector, and fosters a better understanding of the motorcycle industry’s contribution to society.
