The European Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (ACEM) hosted the second edition of its Summer Ride on 1 July, bringing together Members of the European Parliament, European Commission officials and industry representatives for an evening dedicated to motorcycling — this time from the seat of a two-wheeler, because no policy brief can replace the experience of the ride itself.
The 2026 edition carried particular significance: it took place just minutes after the constitutive meeting of the Motorcycling MEP Club, a new cross-party grouping of Members of the European Parliament committed to keeping motorcycling on the European policy agenda. The meeting also saw the election of the Club’s Bureau, with Andreas Glück (Renew Europe) as Chair and Matej Tonin (EPP), Bernd Lange (S&D) and Nora Junco (ECR) as Vice-Chairs. All of the Club’s founding members rode along, turning the Club’s first day into its first ride.
The Summer Ride took the mobility conversation off the panels and onto the streets of Brussels. The riders set off together from the ACEM offices for a 50 km ride to Lac de Genval, united by a shared passion and a clear conviction that L-category vehicles — motorcycles, scooters and mopeds — have an essential role to play in the future of European mobility, whether for commuting or as a lifestyle.
The evening was also the first public engagement of Markus Flasch (CEO BMW Motorrad) as ACEM President, on his very first day in the role, following his election at the ACEM General Assembly in Munich last month.
The ride concluded with a Summer Cocktail in the Parc du Cinquantenaire, where participants continued the conversation well into the evening.
