New Safety Coordinator joins the ACEM Secretariat

Veneta Vassileva joined the ACEM Secretariat in September and will be in charge of the growing number of safety projects which ACEM is currently developing with the European Commission and with other stakeholders.

Veneta gained a sound experience in the field of road safety working for more than 12 years with the Red Cross. She held positions in various Red Cross structures, like the National Headquarters of the Bulgarian Red Cross, the Secretariat of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent National Societies (Geneva) as well as the Red Cross Office in Brussels. She was previously in charge of international projects, developing strategies and policies and establishing liaisons with international groups, partners and stakeholders.

Before joining ACEM, Veneta was responsible for the management and coordination of the Red Cross’ European Road Safety Campaign supervising its activities in 20 EU countries. As Manager of the Fourth European Red Cross Road Safety Campaign she also obtained significant experience in networking at international level.

This 15 months campaign involved more than 400.000 European citizens taking part in the events organized across Europe and millions more were reached by the road safety message. One of the most important legacies of this campaign was the production of new interactive road safety tools available in 16 languages. The “Red Cross Road Safety Resource Pack” was tested by 29.000 persons (children, teachers, road safety practitioners, media representatives) and proved effective in many EU countries.

Veneta is a medical doctor specialized in public health. She is Bulgarian and speaks English, French, Russian and Bulgarian. She has a 6 years old daughter.
